The laureates used a series of experiments to demonstrate that the bizarre properties of the quantum world can be realised in a system large enough to hold in your hand. Their superconducting electrical system could switch from one state to another, as if passing through a wall. They also demonstrated that the system absorbed and emitted energy in specific doses, exactly as predicted by quantum mechanics.
