Abstract: Temperature is a well-known physical quantity that characterize thermodynamic systems, commonly used to describe several processes and properties. At the same time, it’s a complex and important biomarker of human metabolic physiology and health condition. The human body temperature varied as a response to different environmental conditions or diseases, so the temperature measurement remains relevant in routine clinical practice as well as the novel methodology and instrumentation for its assessment. During this seminar, the evolution of historical knowledge of temperature as a biomarker of diseases will be presented, as well as the key aspects regarding the normal body temperature definition, the range of its variations between individuals and the human thermoregulation mechanism. Additionally, the different methods for temperature measurement will emphasized, including the recent temperature monitoring systems for medical purposes.

About the author:

Anna Poplavska is a Ph.D. student in the Nova I4H – Instrumentation for health program of Biomedical engineering. She has a Master’s degree in Laser and Optoelectronics from Vinnytsia National Technical University, Ukraine. Anna has worked actively in the field of medical image processing and analyses in several research projects of university scope. Presently her field of interest is infrared thermography for medical application, including the images processing, novel algorithms, and artificial intelligence (AI) tools developing.
